Week 2
Dragons @ Admirals 10-7
By: Teflon. |
What is wrong with the Admirals the last year? They start winning away
games, which is good and somewhat of a novelty for me. But they lose home games, which is not so good, but also
a novelty.
Offense

I was actually considering 3 shovels this week. Why? Because
the offense performed adequately. 96 yards net rushing, average of 4 per carry. 193 yards passing, 20 completes
out of 35 attemps. 1 pick, 2 sacks allowed... But adequate is only good enough for 3 shovels when you
put more points on the board than the opponent. When you only score 7, against a uninspired defense,
then you deserve everything you get. Which is just one shovel.
Footnote: Hill looks a bit too ready to start running for my tastes.
Defense

5 sacks, one pick, only 133 yards of passing... 101 yards rushing
could have been better, but still very respectable defense. Most importantly: just 10 points on the board.
What more do you want to win a game? Oh yes... an offense that scores more than the measly 10 points.
Special Teams

About as good as they were last week, only this time they did not score the winning points and
a four point field goal. Instead, they missed a four point field goal and still sucked at punts.
If the defense had not stepped up, the Dragons could have used the special teams weakness to
score quite a bit more than they did. Special teams are not terrible, but definitely sub-par.
Coaching

Stuck to an adequate game plan, that by all intents and purposes should have worked.
But in the end, it did not. Adequate just won't cut it! Mix it up. And dare to keep a qb in who
is getting more done than your first choice. It might not have made a difference, but at least
it is trying something. Then again, had Rivers been left in and the team lost anyway, then I'd probably
have said that he should not have pulled Hill so quickly. Guess Andrus can't win here, but that's
why he is paid for being a coach and get squat for writing this nonsense.
Fan Support
Not bad! I would guess over 13000 in total. A decent
amount of noise was produced, even though the game was definitely not exciting to look at whatsoever.
Still, with a result such as this and all the reported problems with getting the reserved tickets,
you'd have to wonder how many of those that got in on a free ticket will actually come back.
